Eyes Relax – Useful Free Utility for People Who Forget to Take a Break
Review by on
Let me start off by telling you what I did over the weekend. I got up at about noon, because hey, it’s the weekend, and bored out of my skull I decided to play a video game. I went with one of my favorites, Plants vs. Zombies. I thought “hey George, that game was fun the first time around, perhaps it will be just as fun the second time around.” It was fun indeed – all 8 hours of it.

I was so hooked that I forgot to do anything else. I played and played for hours. And after so much time spent focused on the monitor, my eyes were incredibly strained. I should have taken breaks from time to time – I should have used Eyes Relax to tell me when it’s time to take a break.

Eyes Relax is an incredibly easy to use and incredibly useful application that tells you when it’s time to take break. You tell Eyes Relax how much time you want to spend working and how much time you want to spend on a break. Say you want to take a break every hour. From the settings menu, enter the work time in minutes (60 minutes) and the break time in seconds (say 300 seconds – that’s 5 minutes). When the 60 minutes are up, Eyes Relax will prompt you about taking a break. You can receive various prompts: a break dialog, the screen will go blank, an image will be displayed, a slideshow will start.

Parents will love this bit – Eyes Relax can be password protected and it has a parent mode. To turn on parent mode you must select a password first; once you’ve turned parent mode on, your child cannot change the settings, disable Eyes Relax nor cancel breaks. The child can cancel breaks only if he were to know the password, but you are the only one who knows the password. To prevent your child from disabling Eyes Relax from the Task Manager, you can prevent the application from showing up in the Task Manager. This is great functionality if you have kids that, like me, forget to take breaks and rest their eyes.

Before you go get Eyes Relax and put it to the test, take a look at the technical details presented below:
Download – the download weighs in at 1.8MB, which means it will complete in no time at all.
Supported OS – at the time of writing this and according to the developer, Eyes Relax provides support for Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista and Windows 7.
Limitations – there are none since Eyes Relax is freeware.

The fact that is free, easy to use, and offers much needed functionality make Eyes Relax a worthwhile download.

  • Easy to use
  • Schedule short and long breaks
  • Parent mode

  • Multilingual support

  • Freeware

Cons
  • None that I could think of
